50% Boomers Agree Boomer Is the N-Word of Ageism [Survey]

50% Boomers Agree Boomer Is the N-Word of Ageism [Survey] The cross-generational conflict in America came to a head this last fall with one of the most polarizing memes of the yearOk boomer. Its meant to be cutting and dismissive. It signals to older generations they misunderstand Millennials and Gen Z culture, politics, and sexuality. And most importantly, that they wont engage.Younger generations are done defending their decisions to older generations and offer a pointed, terse rebuttal with this meme to signal an in-your-face rejection of what Boomers have to say.You have two sides of this polarizing debate. Boomers are known to younger Americans as the out of touch generation that mortgaged their futures. Older generations see Millennials and Gen Z as complainers who wont buckle down and get a job or simply addicted to their phones. But is boomer ever ok?Most baby boomers object and an astounding 50% of them agree:boomer is the n-word of ageism. When I Was Your AgeOk BoomerIn our survey to 1,000 Americans, we decided to first ask about a f ew meme phrases.Heres the simple breakdown:Netflix and Chill87%Woke77%Facepalm68%Ok Boomer66%On fleek53%FOMO47%Stan28%Unsurprisingly, Netflix and Chill is the most recognized meme phrase. But we dont really caretime for a bait and switch. We want to know more about ok boomer. Why the extra questions? Mostly to minimize the risk of response bias. We didnt want to lead respondents to believe there is a particular outcome were invested in.We also hypothesised that perhaps general familiarity with memes breeds acceptance to their contents (well come back to this in a minute).Of all meme phrases, ok boomer is the phrase with the most similar yes rate among all age groups:Gen Z76%Millennials69%Gen X60%Baby Boomers65%Sono matter your age, the message behind ok boomer is rather well known. And interestingly, its the one phrase more familiar to men (71%) than women (64%).But is it funny?About 64% of respondents stated that the phrase is either somewhat funny (34%) or very funny (30%). Only 18 % of respondents said that the phrase isnt funny at all.To no surprise, the younger you are, the funnier the phrase is:Gen Z74%Millennials66%Gen X63%Baby Boomers56%They Always Say: Ok Boomer, They Never Ask, Are U Ok Boomer?Americans know the phrase and find it funnyBut do they also find it insensitive?Once again, its the war of young vs old.For those polled who are 23 or younger, 32% find it somewhat offensive or very offensive. The numbers increase the older the respondent is, with nearly half of Millennials finding it somewhat offensive or very offensive, and Gen X at 56%.Meanwhile, 67% of Baby Boomers find it somewhat offensive or very offensive. We hypothesized that familiarity with meme catchphrases might dampen will dampen the negative emotional reaction to the phrase ok boomer. But even though there are generational differences, the reaction to the term doesnt correlate with having a general meme knowledge. But just how insensitive is the phrase?OK, BummerWe asked respondents t he following question: how strongly do you agree with the following statementBoomer is the n-word of ageism.About 36% of respondents stated that they somewhat agree or strongly agree. Heres the generational breakdown for whether they agree or strongly agree with this statement:Gen Z11% (somewhat agree, no Gen Z respondent strongly agrees)Millennials33% (somewhat + strongly agree)Gen X34% (somewhat + strongly agree)Baby Boomers50% (somewhat + strongly agree)Sothrowing around the term Boomer will likely offend every second Baby Boomer, to the extent that they will compare it to the n-word.Any comparison to the n-word is very harsh. Perhaps representatives of the baby boomer generation are simply having an emotional reaction to being on the receiving end of broad generalization, stereotype, and a harsh reminder of what it feels like to be dismissed.Butits simply a reversal for what younger generations have felt for years from older generations.Phrases like kids these days or when I was your age have the same effectit stereotypes them and makes broad generalizations that their problems are nothing in comparison to what they went through.Key TakeawaysLets recap what the main findings are from our research:68% of respondents know what the meme phrase ok boomer is and this number is similar across all generations (i.e. Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X, Baby Boomers).64% of respondents believe the meme phrase is somewhat funny (34%) or very funny (30%).Whether its offensive depends on your generational group, with Gen Z finding it the least offensive (32%) while Baby Boomers find it the most offensive (67%).Every second Baby Boomer will find the term Boomer to be the n-word of ageism.Methodology and LimitationsIn this study, we collected answers from 1,006 Americans via Amazon's Mechanical Turk. Respondents consisted of 41.5% males and 58.5% females. Our sample's average age was 37 with a standard deviation of 12.This self-report study investigated whether the meme phrase ok boomer is known, whether it is funny, and if respondents find it offensive.Respondents were asked 6 questions, most of which were scale-based or multiple choice. To avoid response bias, we first asked a question on common meme phrases to frame the research as an investigation of Internet speak. We also hypothesized that familiarity with meme catchphrases will dampen the negative emotional reaction to the phrase ok boomer. The data collected suggests that there are clear differences in how the phrase is taken among the youngest and oldest respondents and general meme knowledge doesnt necessarily change how ok boomer is taken.Fair Use StatementFeel free to share our study! How to Write an Executive Summary Example Resume

How to Write an Executive Summary Example ResumeMany people ask me how to write an executive summary example resume. They are usually looking for a sample resume that they can just copy and paste into their resume and then resend it out to their potential employers. The reality is that it is not that easy, and for the same reason that the candidate's cover letter can't be simply copied and pasted into their resume. The first and most important aspect of writing a resume is your resume must be professional. This means that you need to make sure that you follow the standards set by the Human Resources Department of every company you're submitting it to. You may be surprised to learn that in order to get your resume accepted by the employers, you need to go above and beyond.Your resumes need to be unique, you need to be prepared, and the facts and the data must be clear and concise. To get your resume read by the Human Resources Department, the first thing you need to do is to have proof read it. Any errors you find should be fixed immediately. If you don't, it will be your fault for the employer who will not be able to hire you.In addition to having proofread your resume, you should also make sure that your executive summary example resume is complete. You need to make sure you fill each and every blank in your CV, so make sure that everything is clearly stated.Besides proofreading your resume, you should also try to edit it as much as possible. Most candidates think that just by re-writing it, they can get rid of all the mistakes and errors. In fact, you still need to edit your resume, and it won't be a good decision if you do not have enough time to do so.As you can see, you need to go beyond just knowing where to look for job openings. If you want to land a position, you should have a professional resume that meets the standards of every job opening. If you have a professional resume, it will definitely help you get hired faster than the average candidate. So don 't be afraid to spend some time working on your resume, but do also know that when there are hundreds of available jobs, it will take you months to write and edit. Even though there are thousands of CV samples in the internet, you will still need to write your own. This can take more time than you might think, and most probably your prospects will pass you by.Writing a CV is not something that anyone can do within an hour or two. In order to write a good CV, you will need to spend some time on it, not only reading about what you need to do. So spend some time researching and learning all you can about how to write a CV, and you will end up with a professional resume that will win you the job that you have been hoping for.

Staying or Going How to Negotiate More Money

Staying or Going How to Negotiate More Money Times are tough, while the future looks bright.   If you thought being comfortable was your goal, it’s time for a re-think.  We’re in the 4th revolution. The job economy is hurtling towards automation, AI and robotics which impact the workplace, radically transforming every aspect of how work gets done. Let’s take a reality check on what this means, just for a moment.   It’s going to impact stability. Right now, we’re experiencing a weeding out of talent and the number of workers needed to actually do a job. There’s a massive downsizing happening across the board. In contrast, a genuine talent shortage exists because few people possess the needed technical and social skills, plus all-important intellectual abilities, to really excel in today’s workforce environment.  The domino effect creates a lack of effective leaders that negatively impacts organizations and the people within them. It’s quite the puzzle to solve, but one that’s full of potential for top tier talent! For talent  performing well in their organization, theyve just gained a huge advantage. Employees that can proactively demonstrate their value while aggressively continuing their own professional development by keeping their skills are up to date and on par, or more advanced than the competition can win big in this environment. Don’t just sit and feel comfortable with what you have be proactive, assertive, curious, and develop a continuous learning-centric attitude to continually develop your emotional intelligence to enable you to win. Here’s a common scenario encountered by versatile  talent today: A hard-to-find innovation leader is a fantastic cultural fit in a very large technology company, and is actively pursued by competitors. The company she is currently working for has a reputation for offering bottom-of-the-bracket salaries. While she loves the company, the salary is not competitive with what she can make by moving somewhere else. She’s seriously considering a new adventure to enable her to give a better life  to  her family  and save for the future. She hesitates to ask for a raise because of the company’s frugal attitude. At the same time, she’s not sure she should leave because she loves her work and the culture where she is. It creates a difficult challenge. It’s clear she doesn’t want to leave, so what should she do? First, she must determine what she likes about her  present company versus other companies shes considering moving to. She needs to perform a real analysis and decide what she wants to achieve over the next five to ten years, and which company  will help  her to get there.   She needs to critically review  either  scenario and how things could play out over the next few years. Only after she makes a decision that she wants to stay, does she approach her career manager or boss.  She sets up a time to meet with them, in an attempt to  outline her thoughts, which go along the following lines: “I love this company.  I am committed and see myself contributing in X, Y, and Z areas.  I can see the company growing. I see myself managing these important projects over the next 18 months and want to drive the company forward in the following ways X, Y, Z. However, I need a salary or pay package review.’ She waits at this point to gather feedback from the listener.   She’s looking for acknowledgement of her contribution and ideally agreement that her boss wholeheartedly agrees with her, and is open to taking the next steps.  If she’s hard-balled back, then she can argue her case on how she’s been headhunted from competitors with better offers, hence her requesting  $X, which is in alignment with the other offers she’s receiving.  She reiterates that  she’s turning them down because she’s committed to reaching insert goals with company.  She states though, that it’s time for a raise and asks  her boss how they can help make it happen for her. Here’s what this manager has just demonstrated to her boss: She’s done his analysis She’s demonstrated his value to date and anticipated long-term impact for the company She believes in the company and how he is an integral part of it She’s demonstrating she’s fully engaged and loves her work She’s stating the truth. The salary isn’t competitive in the market and she’s a desirable candidate by the competition the company respects. She’s restates her commitment She states what she wants She assumes it’s going to happen rather than it being a negotiation She enlists her boss as her ally instead of making them  her adversary. This above scenario will take place at least once in your career and often talent hesitates to ask for a raise, or goes about asking for one in the wrong way. Sometimes, the talent has seriously misdiagnosed their internal value and the situation does not work out in their favor. There is a lot of fear and job insecurity today among workers, but this needs to be overcome on an individual level to continue to climb the ladder. Much of your career is about negotiation. Negotiation with yourself on what learning  will feed both your passion and industry relevance, plus negotiation with the companies you work for.   I’m not advocating for everyone to ask for outrageous, uncompetitive and untimely pay raises; it’s about learning to manage your career well. The ability to navigate the pitfalls and difficult areas of work and personal relationships must be mastered in order to continue moving upward professionally. Often people get locked into positions because they don’t feel as though they have alternatives or know how to create another option for themselves. Learning how to create options is a critical piece of your career development. Taking control of your career and navigating turbulent waters is a fundamental piece of mastering your career and leadership ability. If you learn how to do this for yourself, you can expect your career to move FORWARD. About the author: Caroline Stokes is the  Founder of Forward  Human Capital Solutions. Finding the Link Between Peace and Productivity

Finding the Link Between Peace and Productivity Daniel can’t concentrate on what his daughter is saying. He’s frantically trying to recall the commitment he made to a now-angry customer. “Is this a right angle?” his daughter asks as she works on her geometry homework. But she doesn’t expect a reply. She’s used to a dad who’s not really there. She puts away her unfinished homework while Daniel stares into space, his heart racing, palms sweaty, head spinning. What else has slipped his mind? Our research shows most people can relate with Daniel: a third of which feel overwhelmed; nearly half are unable to focus, and one in five struggle to be present at home. These are all signs of a failing personal productivity system. Daniel’s system of capturing to-dos on sticky notes, constantly reviewing his email and checking his calendar may have gotten him through college, his first job, and his first promotion, but it isn’t robust enough for his new situation: marriage, children, community commitments, and managerial roles. The most telling symptom of a failing productivity system is not age, organizational status, or income. The most salient sign your system is not serving you is the quality of your life. If stress and distraction are frequent companions, then your productivity habits have not kept pace with your life’s complexity. If Daniel could transform his sputtering system into the Ferrari model, how would his life change? Would he be more or less of a workaholic? Would his stress increase or decrease? Would his capacity to experience enjoyment grow or shrink? We wanted to find out, but we didn’t start with the Daniels. Instead, we began with top performers â€" people who were rated ten out of ten by their managers. Are You a Ten? First, we wanted to know what it means to be a ten, to be rated a top performer by your boss. We predicted top performers would be more valuable than average performers but we wanted to know how much more and what they do that makes them so valuable. So we surveyed 1,594 managers and peers, and asked them about employees they rate as “tens on a ten-point performance scale”. It turns out, both managers and peers say tens are three times more valuable than an average employee and do 61 percent of the total work in their departments. What’s more, managers and peers agreed tens work smarter, not harder, and are less stressed than the average employee. So, how do these top performers do it? To answer this question, we tested the methodology described by David Allen in his book, Getting Things Done to see whether the GTD practices could make someone a ten. We had 2,072 respondents assess the impact of their production practices on two key areas: performance and stress. Statistical tests confirmed that participants with high productivity scores had performance levels 68 percent higher and yet half the stress of participants with low scores. As it turns out, GTD practices dramatically improve performance while reducing stress. Specifically, people with high scores are: 55 times less likely to start projects that never get finished 21 times less likely to experience tasks and responsibilities falling through the cracks Never likely to miss deadlines or assignments 18 times less likely to feel overwhelmed Actions You Can Take Our research shows that learning the productivity skills demonstrated by top performers is key to both personal and organizational success. The message in this research is that a very small number of self-management practices literally change a person’s life and are also beneficial to the organization â€" they dramatically improve performance while also reducing stress. Below are five productivity practices of top performing employees. practices aligned with the skills in Getting Things Done. that anyone can implement into their own productivity system today: Collect everything that owns your attention. Capture all commitments, tasks, ideas, and projects rather than keeping them in your head. Use just a few “capture tools” you keep with you all the time such as lists, apps, email, etc. Decide what your stuff means to you. Clarify if the items you’ve captured have an action or not. If they do, be very clear about what the VERY next action is and who should take it. Use the two-minute rule. If an action can be completed in two minutes or less, do it immediately. Don’t defer. The time you’ll waste letting these simple actions occupy your attention and the to-do list is not worth itâ€"two minutes becomes your efficiency cutoff. Do more of the right things by reflecting on  the right moments. Rather than diving into your messy inbox first thing, take two minutes to review your calendar and your action lists. This reflection ensures you make the best decisions about how to use your time. Review weekly. Keep a sacred, non-negotiable meeting with yourself every week to re-sync, get current, and align your daily work and projects with your higher-level priorities. Here are 5 things you should do on LinkedIn each week to stay engaged, grow your network, and connect with opportunities: 1. Update your status with news, something you learned, or share an industry related-article a. Stay active and on the radar by demonstrating your knowledge of current industry trends. What you post will appear on your contacts’ home page feed. If you write or follow a professional blog, this is a great place to share it. 2. It can also be very beneficial if you are trying to build your business through new clients. 3. Recommend or endorse someone you know a. Recommendations carry much more weight than endorsements so be sure to recommend others and ask them to write one for you. 4.
